Characteristics and what to look for: 

When recession occurs, the gum moves away from the tooth exposing the root to oral environment. You may notice a yellow discoloration under your white enamel on some of your teeth. Some of your teeth also may appear longer and you may have greater sensitivity when consuming very hot or very cold beverages. gum grafting may be appropriate treatment for you

Not all sensitive teeth are cause by recession. Cavities and damage to your tooth nerve may also cause your teeth to be sensitive. If your tooth ever wakes you up in the middle of the night or has lingering sensitivity you should seek emergent dental care from your general dental provider.

·       Factitious habits

·       Periodontal disease

Not all recession needs to be treated. We will work to determine which areas require treatment and which areas can be monitored. There are many ways to manage recessions, and Dr. Dempsey will work with you to determine the best approach for you.
